She started out being apparently hard-of-hearing and suffering from itchy and/or sore ears, mostly so on the left, was given ear drops, got all red ears from them, but despite my telling him so, the vet insisted I continue give her the ear drops, only to realise yesterday that apparently she reacted highly allergic to one of the substances in those ear drops.
Most of her skin inside her ears and out and in the surroundings is in the process of falling off (hair, too, of course), as if she'd suffered from a very, very severe sunburn, but the inflamation in her outer ear (auditory canal) is still there, alas!, it's got even worse with this reaction.
So no we must treat (read: torture) her with a different kind of ear cream, until we can start working against the ear mites that the vet now thinks are there and are causing all her suffering.
So, when she's relatively ok, she can actually still be quite interested in everything around her - and I also believe she's back to hearing things better these days! - but...
... often the itch is so bad, and her means to fight it so limited, that all she can do is repeatedly shake her head vigorously to beat the itch and pain.
And after the vet had seen her yesterday, took of quite a bit of old skin, applied the new treatment and therefore touched, pulled and (mis-)treated her poor ears, she looked like this - oh dear, what a miserable-looking cat...
